Purpose:
The purpose of the St. Thomas More Newman Center Scholars program is to cultivate Catholic leaders of tomorrow by providing a basis of Church teachings, and an outlet to practice those teachings in the Parish and today’s society. Up to five $1,000 scholarships may be awarded. The award is divided into two payments during the academic year.
Criteria:
To be eligible to receive a Newman Scholars award, the student must meet the following criteria:
- Be a registered student at the St. Thomas More Newman Center.
- Be a full time student at Columbia College, Stephens College or the University of Missouri-Columbia.
- Complete a scholarship applicatioin and select an area of interest (see below).
Other Important Information:
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale must be maintained.
- Successful completion of at least 12 academic hours per semester and enrollment or intent to enroll in at least 12 academic hours for the upcoming semester must be demonstrated.
- Areas of interest are Library Science, Worship, Communications, Religious Studies, Social Justice, Laity in the Church and Evangelism. Each of these areas has perscribed requirements which must be met.
